The Delta State Police Command has arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects over the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
This brings to five the number of suspects currently in police custody in connection with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the education official.
The police also declared a manhunt for the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, and Clement Apia, the driver attached to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The command, in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the presence of the two suspects was required to advance the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Erale, urged Ufuoma and Apia to make themselves available to the police without further delay.
The command said it would conduct the investigation thoroughly, impartially, and professionally, assuring the deceased’s family and members of the public that it would follow due process.
According to the police, anyone found culpable in the death of Ekpevbughe would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The latest development comes amid growing concerns over the circumstances surrounding the death of the Deputy Director, who reportedly died following an incident at his workplace.
The police command had earlier commenced investigation into the incident, which has attracted public attention and calls for the circumstances surrounding the official’s death to be established.
The command appealed for cooperation as investigators intensify efforts to unravel what transpired.
The Police Public Relations Officer also conveyed the command’s condolences to the family of the deceased.
