The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a suspected cultist at the Udu Express Junction in Udu Local Government Area of the State.

It was learnt that the yet-to-be identified man was alleged to have engaged some police operatives in a gun duel during fracas between suspected rival cult groups in the area.

WARRI TODAY gathered that the suspect died as a result of gunshot injuries during the melee which occurred on Tuesday evening.

It could be recall that the Udu Council Chairman, Mr Jite Brown had last week imposed curfew in the urban areas of the council over festering clashes between suspected cults groups in the areas.

Despite the curfew, cult clashes in the areas are still on the rise in the areas.

Findings revealed that the policemen from Ovwian/Aladja Division had gone to Udu Express Junction to put an end to a clash among rival cult groups.

However, a suspected cultist from one of the groups allegedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to an exchange of gun power.

It was learnt that one of the suspects was gunned down by the police, while others fled the scene.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Commissioner, Mr Adeyinka Adeleke, said his men who had gone to the area to return normalcy were attacked by suspected cultists.

According to him, one of the suspected cultists was killed by the superior fire power of his men.

 “Cultists clashed with Police and one was shot dead. The person is a cultist”, Adeleke added.
