A cross section of Nigerians including Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and notable music artistes have taken to twitter to express their disgust on the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living and doing business in South Africa.

Governor Okowa in a tweet on his verified twitter handle, @IAOkowa, condemned the attacks, and urged the Federal government to liaise with the South African government to immediately end the raging attacks on Nigerians living the country.

According to him, “I condemn in the strongest possible terms the repeated violent attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

“The Federal Government must immediately liaise with the South African authorities to protect the lives and livelihoods of all our citizens. #SayNoToXenophobia”

Similarly, one of Nigeria’s biggest musical exports to the world, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, also known as Wizkid, has described the attacks as highly disheartening, calling for an end to the attack.

Wizkid questioned why a fellow African will attack his brothers and sisters from another country when they should see themselves as one people.

His tweet read, “Disheartening to watch these videos from my home! You’re fighting the wrong war, fighting the wrong people. How do we walk around hating each other? Africa is one! We’re all the same people! Pls don’t loose yourself! #SayNoToXenophobia One Love.

Also, the winner of the 2017 Winner of the Big Brother Naija hosted in South Africa, Efe Ejeba, who is also musically known as Efe, noted that Nigerians were not the problem of the South African people since they are faced with similar challenges of corruption.

Efe, whose latest song, Scammer, talks about issue of corruption and other social challenges in Nigeria, urged South Africans to channel their grievances on the South African government rather than resorting to attacks of fellow Africans living in their country.
