Staff Stripping: Urhobo Youths Demand Arrest Of Ex-Minister, Kenneth Gbagi

By Osahon OSahon

The factional President of the youth wing, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Mr. Efemena Umukoro, on Friday joined calls for the arrest of the governorship aspirant and former Minister of State for Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi.

Gbagi is being accused of allegedly stripping four of his workers (three females and male) naked at Signature Hotels in Effurun, Delta State, for alleged theft.

He is one of the politicians jostling to succeed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 forthcoming governorship in the state.

Gbagi had already been declared wanted by the Delta Police Command for failing to honour police invitation over the incident.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the police including the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta Commissioner of Police from arresting Gbagi, until the determination of suit seeking to enforce his fundamental human rights.

Gbagi had also consistently denied his involvement in the alleged stripping of the workers naked.

The factional UPU youth President spoke on Friday at Abraka area of the state since both the naked pictures and video of the incident hit the social media space.

Umukoro called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to expedite action for his arrest and prosecution.

While describing the action of the PDP governorship aspirant as barbaric, he noted that “Gbagi is giving Urhobo people a bad name. Urhobo people are known to be hospitable and peace loving.

“He must be arrested and persecuted because he cannot be above the law. We are saying that justice must be done. It should be placed on record that the police from Ebrumede police station were not involved in the stripping of the workers.

Umukoro, while calling for the arrest of the policemen from the Special Protection unit attached to Gbagi, he alleged that the said policemen “supervised the illegality” after a phone was given to a 15year-old boy to video the victims.

He also called on the Inspector General of police make the police officers attached to Gbagi to face trial.
