The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has commended the impressive developmental strides of Delta Central Polytechnic, Effurun-Otor, describing its performance as one of the best among private polytechnics in Delta State.
Prof. Tonukari gave the commendation on Thursday, February 26, 2026, during a visit to the institution, where he commissioned the newly established Health Information Management Laboratory and a well-equipped Computer Science Department at the school’s permanent site in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner disclosed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is fully aware of the institution’s operations and is pleased with its progress.
“The Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, as a lover of education, is fully aware of this school and is very much pleased with its operations,” Tonukari said, assuring that the state government would continue to support the institution in line with its policies on education development.
As part of efforts to provide quality education in a conducive learning environment, the management of the polytechnic has relocated to its permanent site along the Ekiugbo-Ughelli axis, adjoining Effurun-Otor within the Ughelli North and South Local Government Areas.
Earlier in his address, the Founder and Rector of the institution, Ambassador Engr. Anthony Okagbare, stated that the school’s vision of making private sector higher education more attractive, affordable and productive was steadily being realised, especially with the transition to the permanent site.
Okagbare called for visible government support, particularly in the area of youth engagement through entrepreneurial and vocational programmes, stressing that the polytechnic possesses the capacity to partner effectively with the state government in skills training and acquisition.
He noted that the institution remains open to collaboration with the Delta State Government in advancing youth empowerment initiatives in line with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda.
The ceremony was attended by top officials of the institution, including the Registrar, Rev. David Jodome; the Admission Officer/Bursar, Mr. David Evuarherhe; HOD General Studies, Mr. Augustine Iyekakpolor; Miss Endurance Ovedhe of the Science Laboratory Technology Department; HOD Accountancy, Mr. Peter Ogumor; Mr. Different Vwaire of Electrical/Electronics; Mr. Agofure of Computer Science; and Mr. Avwoko of Public Administration, among others.
The visit underscored the state government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with private institutions to expand access to quality tertiary education across Delta State.
