Two killed as Bayelsa man feeds children with Sniper on New Year Day

The Police in Bayelsa State have arrested one Mr Samuel Sunday for allegedly poisoning two of his children to death with a liquid substance suspected to be sniper.

WARRI TODAY gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday (New Year Day) owing to the father’s inability to cater for the children.

While two of the children identified as Master Success Sunday and Master Miracle Sunday both 14 and 12 years old respectively died instantly, the third child, Master Godstime Success, is now battling for life at a medical centre in Yenagoa.

It was learnt that the accused father was alleged to have carried out the action in connivance with his family brother identified as Mr Aya Preye.  Preye has also been arrested by the police.

Sunday and his wife, according to sources had been divorced, leaving the children on the care of their grandmother until the sad incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

Speaking while parading the two suspects, Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aminu Saleh tolf newsmen on Wednesday that two of the children died of the suspected substance before help team arrived the scene of the incident.

Saleh said children had been reportedly branded as wizards and thus responsible for their father’s failing health by a native doctor in their community. The allegation was alleged to have been responsible for the killing of the children.

The police commissioner said, ‘’A certain medicine man in their village that the children were responsible for his sickness, while that was going on they have been branded as wizard by their villagers. They have brutally been abused by the whole community, and been called all kinds of names.’’

He warned parents, religious and community leaders against subjecting their children to unnecessary hardship.
