All Progressives Congress, APC Chairmanship hopeful in Warri South Local Government Area, Mr. Atiene Oritsetimeyin Jerry, has petitioned Delta State Chairman of the party, Engr. Omene Sobotie, claiming that one Richard Pessu, was singlehandedly chosen as Chairman of APC in Warri South, by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Oritseweyinmi Isaac Agbateyiniro.
Atiene, in the petition written through his Counsel, S. Efejuku & Co (MIEMIE CHAMBERS) Solicitors and Advocate, said Agbateyiniro’s open declaration on February 16, 2026 that the party had reached a consensus to make Richard Pessu, the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) of Warri South Local Government Area, was a surprise to the present Chairman of APC Warri South Local Government Area, Mario Owumi, who “denied his involvement in Richard Pessu’s appointment.”
According to the aggrieved Atiene, on the 29th of January, 2026, himself, Richard Pessu and 8 others, indicated interest for the seat of the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Warri South Local Government Area, during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the Warri South Local Government Council Lodge, GRA, Warri.
The APC Chairmanship contender, who stated that he has been a dedicated member of the party since 2015, appealed to the state chairman to call the Warri South Local Government Chairman, Comrade Oritseweyinmi Isaac Agbateyiniro to order, insisting he be allowed a fair chance to be nominated by stakeholders of the APC, at a meeting where the agreed consensus model ought to be applied.
While stating that the selection mode used by Hon. Agbateyiniro, is strange and does not comply with the set down rules for consensus selection in the APC’s Constitution, Mr. Atiene, in his petition dated February 17, 2026, noted that the said Mr. Richard Pessu, “up till his change to the APC, was a Chairman of the PDP of Warri South Local Government Area.”
