Chairman of Concerned Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN), Olorogun Godwin Obire, PhD, has outlined what he described as “compelling and undeniable reasons” there is no vacancy in the Delta Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, Obire anchored his position on performance, equity and political balance, insisting that any agitation to unseat Senator Ede Dafinone at this time runs contrary to logic and justice.
According to him, the first and most critical reason is performance.
“Senator Ede Dafinone has earned the confidence of the district through visible results, accessibility and a people-oriented approach. At a time when the people are seeing impact, continuity is not just desirable—it is necessary,” he said.
Obire further argued that stability remains key to sustaining ongoing development across Delta Central.
“Disrupting a working system for the sake of recycled ambitions would amount to a costly political gamble the district cannot afford,” he added.
On equity, the CNBN chairman said the historical dominance of Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency in producing senators makes any fresh push from the bloc unjustifiable.
He noted that from the late Senator Felix Ibru to Senators Brume, Pius Ewherido and Ovie Omo-Agege, the constituency has held the seat for multiple tenures, far exceeding other blocs within the district.
“When you put the records side by side, it is clear that no constituency has benefited more. Equity demands that others should now have a fair chance,” he said.
Obire described attempts by politicians from the constituency to re-contest the seat in 2027 as “premature and insensitive,” warning that such moves could upset the delicate balance within the Urhobo political structure.
“It would amount to political overreach and a direct marginalization of other constituencies that have waited patiently for inclusion,” he stressed.
He also pointed to what he called the need for a new political culture—one driven by merit rather than entitlement.
“Politics is about service, not ownership. No constituency has a birthright to the Senate seat. The era of monopolizing power has passed,” Obire said.
The political strategist maintained that Senator Dafinone represents a stabilizing force whose leadership has brought renewed visibility and credibility to Delta Central.
“Abandoning that progress now would not only stall development but weaken the collective strength of the district,” he warned.
Reaffirming his stance, Obire said the growing consensus across Delta Central is firmly in support of continuity.
“The call is clear and getting louder—consolidate progress, sustain stability and respect equity,” he said.
He concluded with a firm declaration: “For these reasons, the message ahead of 2027 remains unmistakable—there is no vacancy in the Delta Central Senatorial seat.”
