COVID-19: Buhari’s Chief Of Staff, Abba Kyari, Is Dead

Mallam Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, is dead.

Kyari, one of the prominent members of President Buhari’s kitchen cabinet, died weeks after contracting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Presidency announced his death on Saturday morning in a statement

The statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said Kyari died on Friday.

The deceased, who tested positive to the virus in March, had been receiving treatment at one of the isolation centres in Lagos.

The statement read, “The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari.

“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.

“May God accept his soul.

“Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had on Friday announced that 17 persons have died for Coronavirus in the country.

It also disclosed that 51 new cases of coronavirus were recorded on Friday which brought to 493 the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria.

Of the 17 deaths,11 were recorded in Lagos, two in Abuja, one each in Kano, Edo, Delta, and Katsina States respectively.
