The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced the final phase of the screening exercise for the recently shortlisted candidates, with successful applicants undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessment, and medical screening at the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
According to a statement by NCS Spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, the exercise, which started this Monday, would run until 19 September 2026.
The screening, according to Maiwada, covers shortlisted applicants across the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII), Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, while addressing the candidates, emphasised that the Service is evaluating character and professional conduct alongside the physical fitness of shortlisted applicants.
Onyeka, while congratulating the candidates on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, charged them to remain disciplined and adhere strictly to Service guidelines during the course of the exercise.
“I urge you to remain orderly and strictly adhere to the guidelines. Beyond physical requirements, your attitude, discipline, and conduct are critical factors in deciding who ultimately joins the Service”, Onyeka added.
He added that the NCS is working closely with the Customs Police and other relevant Units within the Service to safeguard the integrity of the process.
Also speaking, the Commandant of the Nigeria Custom Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Dow Gaura, noted that administrative innovations and inter-agency collaboration have streamlined the exercise.
“Everything happening here reflects the policy vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which emphasised continuous operational improvement, collaboration, and innovation,” Gaura stated.
He added that “The process has been seamless, hitch-free, and conducted without any casualties.”
The screening for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) cadre ended on Thursday, 10 September, while evaluations for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until 19 September 2026.
The NCS had announced an annual recruitment cycle and released the final list of 3,852 successful candidates for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise on Aug. 4.
The exercise received 573,680 applications for 3,852 positions, with 1,275 candidates selected for the Superintendent Cadre, 367 for the Inspectorate Cadre, and 2,210 for the Customs Assistant Cadre.
