There are strong indications of political realignment in Delta Central as Senator Ede Dafinone and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Chief Adviser, Senator Ighoyota Amori PhD, have closed ranks, calling for unity among Urhobo leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, paid a courtesy visit to Amori at his Mosogar country home on Friday, in what observers described as a significant step toward strengthening cohesion within the Urhobo political bloc.
The meeting attracted notable political figures, including Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Pastor Chris Onogba; APC chieftain, Olorogun Adelabu Bodjor; and Engr. Abraham Bobor, alongside members of both political families.
Though both leaders were on opposing sides during the 2023 general elections—Dafinone contesting under the All Progressives Congress and Amori flying the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party—they displayed a renewed spirit of cooperation.
Speaking after the meeting, Dafinone described Amori as a respected leader whose contributions to Delta State’s political development remain significant.
He noted that, beyond political differences, there was a need for leaders to work together in the interest of the people.
Amori, on his part, expressed satisfaction with Dafinone’s performance in the Senate, stating that he had not been disappointed in his representation of Delta Central.
He emphasised that politics should not be driven by bitterness, stressing that their relationship remained intact despite past electoral contest.
The elder statesman called on Urhobo political actors to put aside personal interests and embrace unity, noting that division has continued to hinder collective progress in the region.
Political observers believe the meeting signals a broader move toward reconciliation and strategic alliance-building in Delta Central, with implications for the political dynamics of the Niger Delta as the 2027 elections approach.
