The Federal Government has appointed the Vice President, West African College of Physicians, Prof. Abel Nze Onunu as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale in Delta State.
Onunu’s appointment was contained in an appointment letter with reference number FME/PS/569/C.I/II/61 by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Andrew David Adejo.
The appointment letter sighted by NIGER DELTA TODAY’s correspondent on Wednesday and dated 28 May, 2023 said Onunu’s appointment is with immediate effect.
Onunu, an indigene of Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, is a professor of Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Infectious diseases at the University of Benin, Edo State.
The letter read, “I write to convey to you the approval of Mr. President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, for your appointment as the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Health Sciences, Kwale-Delta State.
“The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years, with effect from 28th May, 2023 in line with the Federal Universities Act.
“The terms and conditions; of service including remunerations and fringe benefits shall be as approved for the Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities.
“Please, accept my hearty congratulations and sincere wishes for a most successful tenure.”
Professor Onunu is the National Chairman and Vice President of the West African College of Physicians. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.
Federal University Medical Health Sciences, Kwale, was facilitated by the Deputy President of the Senate and Delta Central Senator, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and its establishment was approved by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
