By Ovie Okpare

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a resident doctor with Central Hospital, Ojobo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The doctor, identified as Dr. Wisdom Iboyitete, was kidnapped on Sunday night at about 11:30pm.

It was gathered that the hoodlums who disguised as patients seeking medication attention were armed during the attack.

The incident, according to local sources, has caused tension in the Ijaw riverine community.

Dr. Iboyitete was allegedly with the newly elected Ojobo Community Chairman when he received an emergency call from the hospital for emergency case.

Unknown to the resident doctor, the supposed patient and others who accompanied the patient, turned out to be kidnappers.

The kidnappers who were eight in numbers spoke in Ijaw language during the attack.

The victim was said to have been whisked away to an unknown destination through a nearby river in the community.

Members of the community are still in fears as of the time of filing this report on Monday.

The kidnappers have not established contact with the doctors’ family or residents of the community.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, confirmed the incident on Monday via phone.

He stated that the kidnappers had pretended to be patients who needed medical services.

Inuwa noted, “Yes. The people posed as patients, so the doctor was to treat them. They kidnapped him and took him inside the water. Maybe they came with a boat. But we have mobilised policemen to that place to see what they can do.”
