NSCDC Nabs Two Over Minor’s Assault, Edo Govt Vows To End Violence Against Women

The Edo State Government and security agencies have renewed their commitment to tackling violence against women and children following the arrest of two suspects over the abduction and sexual assault of a teenage girl in Ewohimi.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested Orhiabor ThankGod, 20, and Saturday Freedom, 16, both residents of Ewohimi, after operatives traced ransom conversations with the victim’s family through a mobile phone recovered during the investigation. The suspects demanded N800,000 initially before reducing the amount to N300,000.

The victim’s brother reported her disappearance at the NSCDC Ewohimi Division on June 19, 2026, a day after unknown persons allegedly abducted her. Operatives rescued the minor and took her into protective care.

Medical examination at the Edo State Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Benin City confirmed the minor suffered sexual assault. She received medical treatment and counselling.

The arrests come as security agencies and the state government intensify efforts to combat violent crimes, particularly those targeting women and children.
