A yet-to-be identified commercial tricycle operator, otherwise known as Keke, has reportedly slumped and died after suddenly parking his tricycle to buy food at Effurun in Uvwie, Delta State.
The incident happened on Thursday morning by Okorodudu Junction near the popular Old Airport Junction in Uvwie.
Witnesses claimed the deceased, who was visibly looking hungry, was heading to a local food vendor in the area when he slumped.
Sources said the incident would not be unconnected with the current economy hardship in the country over the rising cost of food and petrol.
One of the witnesses, Mr. Martins Emuobonuvie, told NIGER DELTA TODAY Online, “The man parked his Keke and wanted to eat before he fell to the ground and stopped all forms of movements. The policemen who rushed to the scene said he was dead, and they couldn’t rushed him to hospital.”
A motorist, Emeka Ebube, who also witnessed the incident, blamed the policemen from Enerhen Divisional Police Station for not rushing the deceased to hospital, adding that he (deceased) could have survived if he was given medical attention.
It was, however, learnt that a team of policemen later evacuated the remains of the victim from the spot of the incident after calling relations of the deceased.
The Spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for further details of the incident.
