The acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has launched a special operation for states in the South-East geo-pollical zone to stem the tide of insecurity in the region.
The operation codenamed Operation Restore Peace (Operation RP), according to the police boss, would help restore peace to the region.
Speaking at the launch of the operation at the Okpara Square in Enugu State, Alkali explained Operation RP would boost the efforts of police to change the narrative to what the Igbo man used to be and ensure that “all live in peace in this part of the country.”
IGP Alkali, flanked by Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, said the operation was customized to tackle emerging security issues in the zone.
He called on leaders and people of the region to give members of the team needed support to restore sanity and peace to them.
The police chief who stressed that the country remains one, urged aggrieved persons to use dialogue in addressing their grievances in the interest of peace.
