Delta State chapter Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has appealed to South-South governors and key stakeholders including National and States Assembly members to form a regional security outfit similar to Amotekun to tackle the growing insecurity in the zone.

CAN made the call on Sunday in Asaba during a peaceful walk and prayers along the streets of Asaba, the state capital, against the killings in Nigeria, particularly in the region.

It charged political leaders in the zone to go back to the drawing board to provide the needed security architecture as their counterparts in South West had done with Amotekun.

The State CAN Chairman, Apostle Sunday Okorote, decried the worsening insecurity in the country and charged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to prioritize the safety of lives and properties across the country.

Okorote who led the protest while in a Prayer Walk in Asaba, with placards of various inscriptions such as ‘Give peace a chance’, ‘Say no to kidnapping of Christians’, ‘O God arise, let your enemies be scattered’, among others, said the regional security is bound to reduce killings, kidnapping, and armed robbery.

According to the CAN chairman, “Our brothers in the South-West went to the drawing board and came up with Amotekun to stop these killings in that region. They tried to stop it but the President said he has not ordered anybody to stop Amotekun. So Amotekun has come to stay.

“Our governors and legislators in the South-South region should also go back to the draw board and come with our own unique security architecture to curb these killings.

“I know the people committing this havoc cannot dare the South-East, they cannot even step into Anambra State, but if they come to the South-South and there is nothing to repel them, the place will be a fertile ground for them to perpetrate their criminal tendencies.

“Therefore, there should be security architecture in the South-South. Since Amotekun has sailed through, others will follow.”
