Naapah ThankGod Bariledum, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has approached the Rivers State High Court seeking the disqualification of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, from participating in the party’s presidential primaries.

The litigant, who is a member of the APC Ward 4, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers, told the court that Emefiele, who hails from Agbor in Delta State, is not qualified to contest the 2023 presidential election on the party’s platform.

The suit marked PHC/1371/CS/2022 was filed on Friday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Bariledum argued that the CBN Governor should be disqualified on grounds of ineligibility to participate in the party primaries based on provisions of the 1999 Constitution, APC Constitution and the CBN Act.

He, however, asked the court for an exparte order to restrain Emefiele from participating in the primaries pending final hearing of the suit.

The has suit has Emefiele, APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants respectively.

He further said that Emefiele has not fulfilled provisions of the CBN Act to support his legal right to valid membership of the APC before participating in the Primaries.

The Plaintiff is further praying the court to hear the matter speedily to avoid jeopardizing the APC presidential primaries and the entire party.
