NYSC corps members serving in Warri, the commercial centre of Delta State, have lamented the deplorable state of Corpers Lodge in Edjeba, Warri South LGA of Delta.
The lodge, which is at the stage of collapsing, is now home to dangerous animals including reptiles.
NIGER DELTA TODAY‘s team who visited the lodge observed that the premises is already swallowed by flood when the rain is yet to hit the peak period.
The lodge built by the administration of former Governor James Ibori is presently without toilets and bathrooms to accommodate the over twenty corps members living in the facility.
Our correspondents gathered that the lodge is under the care of Delta State Government House, Annex, also in Edjeba.
It was observed further that most parts of the building are already showing signs of gradual collapsing especially the bathrooms and the restrooms which the corps members have marked as danger zone.
The corps members said they were still living in the building owing to the high cost of renting an apartment within the city as well as the high cost of living in the state.
They pleaded with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and oil companies operating in the locality as well as the people of Edjeba community to save them from the impeding danger.
The lamented that they wake up or return home from work in most cases to see dangerous reptiles including snakes of different sizes.
They further disclosed that just before our visit on Wednesday June 3, 2021, they had killed two snakes within the premises.
