Ahead of the All Progressives Congress primaries, the Delta Central Elders and Leaders Consultative Council has unanimously endorsed founding leader of the party in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, as its preferred candidate for the Delta Central Senatorial seat.
The endorsement, seen as a major political boost, came during a strategic meeting of the council held on Wednesday at the Effurun GRA residence of its chairman, Chief Sylvester Kowho, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Rising from the meeting, the council said its decision followed a critical appraisal of all aspirants, noting that Emerhor’s track record, loyalty, and sacrifices since the formation of the APC distinguished him among his peers.
Speaking, Kowho said the endorsement reflected the collective will of party elders across Delta Central, describing Emerhor as a committed party man whose contributions have sustained and strengthened the APC structure in the state.
“We carefully examined all aspirants and came to a unanimous conclusion. Olorogun O’tega Emerhor has remained consistent, loyal, and dedicated to the growth of our party,” he said.
The council also pointed to Emerhor’s strong connections at the federal level, expressing optimism that his emergence would enhance synergy with the administration of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly in attracting federal projects and development to the region.
The council’s spokesman, Chief Thomas Akpodiete, while moving the motion for the endorsement of Olorogun Emerhor, described him as the founding pillar of the APC in Delta State, noting that he played a pivotal role in financing and stabilising the party during its early days.
He said, “Emerhor stood firm when it mattered most. He funded and nurtured this party structure even without holding public office. That sacrifice cannot be ignored.”
The motion for his endorsement was seconded by Chief Silver Savbede and subsequently adopted through a unanimous voice vote by members present.
Kowho, while addressing the gathering, charged leaders across the eight local government areas of Delta Central to intensify mobilisation efforts at the grassroots, stressing the importance of unity ahead of the primaries, which may be conducted through consensus or direct voting.
The meeting was attended by notable APC elders and stakeholders, including Sir Benson Mebitaghan, Col. Abeke (retd.), Okakuro Clifford Ikpikpini, and Olorogun John Onojeharho, among others, underscoring the broad-based support for Emerhor within the party’s Delta Central fold.
