The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, has reaffirmed his commitment to fairness and inclusive representation across the district’s diverse ethnic nationalities.
The lawmaker gave the assurance on Tuesday during a consultative visit to the Warri Urhobo APC Family, at the residence of the Chairman of the Warri Urhobo APC Leadership Council, Olorogun Bernard Okumagba, in Warri.
The meeting brought together a broad spectrum of party stakeholders, including members of the Warri Urhobo APC Leadership Council, Warri South APC executive members, ward chairmen, councillors, state appointees, and grassroots leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Joel-Onowakpo, who has spent nearly three years in the Senate, highlighted his legislative and developmental interventions, noting that his focus remains attracting federal presence and accelerating development across Delta South.
He disclosed that he has sponsored eight bills, several of which have scaled legislative hurdles in both chambers of the National Assembly, with some already assented to by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Among them, he noted, is the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko (Establishment) Bill, signed into law in January 2025, which he said would boost educational advancement, maritime capacity, and job creation in the region.
The senator further revealed that he has facilitated numerous development projects through appropriation processes, with some completed and others in the pipeline for execution.
On human capital development, he stated that over 2,000 constituents have benefitted from various empowerment programmes under his watch, including the distribution of motorcycles, sewing machines, generators, solar equipment, and agricultural tools, alongside training initiatives in peace-building, solar installation, and drug abuse prevention.
Reiterating his stance on equity, Joel-Onowakpo stressed that his representation cuts across the four major ethnic nationalities in Delta South — Ijaw, Isoko, Itsekiri, and Urhobo — pledging to maintain fairness in the distribution of opportunities and projects.
