Leaders, elders, women and youths from Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas of Delta State have intensified calls on former lawmaker, Solomon Ahwinahwi, to declare for the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made at an enlarged gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful held in Ughelli over the weekend, where party stakeholders across the three councils converged to deliberate on the political future of the constituency.
The meeting also witnessed a strong endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for second terms in office, with participants citing the need for continuity and consolidation of ongoing policies and programmes.
Speaking on behalf of the three local government areas, Chief Gabriel Ojoba, Chief Macaulay Dase and Elder Gabriel Ighosueta said the push for Ahwinahwi’s candidacy was the outcome of broad consultations and a growing consensus among stakeholders.
They described the former lawmaker as a seasoned politician with the experience, reach and capacity to reposition representation in the constituency, noting that the current political climate demands tested hands who can effectively engage both federal and state governments.

“At this critical stage, we need lawmakers who understand governance and can support the Renewed Hope agenda and the developmental strides in Delta State,” the leaders said.

The call gained further traction as several political pressure groups openly threw their weight behind Ahwinahwi, portraying him as a dependable and result-oriented leader.
Among those who spoke were Mr Emmanuel Esesiobe of Unique Ambassadors for Good Governance, Chief Duke Arhere of U-3 Crusaders, and the General Manager of Delta Queens Football Club, Hon. Mercy Awana-Alakis, all of whom aligned with the position that Ahwinahwi remains the best bet for effective representation.
The endorsement of Tinubu and Oborevwori, alongside the call for Ahwinahwi to join the race, was formalised through a motion moved by former Ughelli South Council Chairman, Mr Monday Emuvakpor, seconded by Chief Bestman Iteveh, and unanimously adopted after a voice vote conducted by Chief George Ushere.
