The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has described teachers as the architects of Nigeria’s future, urging greater investment in their welfare, training and working conditions.
Dafinone made the call in a message marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, in which he commended teachers across Delta Central and Nigeria for their sacrifices and commitment to shaping the younger generation.
The lawmaker said no nation could rise above the quality of its education, stressing that teachers remained central to building a productive, responsible and prosperous society.
According to him, teachers do more than transfer knowledge to pupils and students, as they also mould character, inspire ambition and equip young Nigerians with the values and skills required to confront future challenges.
“Behind every accomplished professional, entrepreneur, public servant and leader is the influence of a teacher,” Dafinone said.
He urged governments at all levels and other stakeholders to treat investment in teachers as an investment in the future of the country.
The senator called for improved working conditions, better remuneration, continuous professional development and the provision of modern teaching tools to enable teachers to perform effectively.
He said, “Investing in the welfare, capacity and dignity of our teachers is not merely an investment in education; it is an investment in Nigeria’s future.”
Dafinone particularly saluted teachers in Delta Central who, according to him, continued to serve with dedication despite difficult circumstances.
He said classrooms remained critical spaces where the dreams of young Nigerians were nurtured and the foundations for responsible citizenship and national development were laid.
The senator added that the quality of leadership, workforce and citizenship Nigeria would produce in the future would be significantly influenced by the teachers currently shaping its children.
“May the lives you shape today become the strength, leadership and prosperity of our nation tomorrow,” he said.
