The family of a 38-year-old hunter, Mr. Ubaka Nwanmo has been thrown into mourning as the hunter reportedly shot himself to death in Ogwashi-Uku town, Aniosha South local Government area of Delta State.
It was learnt that the hunter loaded his dane gun, hung it somewhere but exploded on him accidentally while trying to remove it for business.
A community source told Journalists in Ogwashi-Uku that Nwanmo’s sad death occurred last Saturday in Ogwashi-Uku forest where the hunter went for hunting expedition.
A relative of Nwanmo, Mr. Tony Isichei added that Nwanmo died from bullet wounds shortly after arriving a private hospital in the community.
“He did not die immediately after the incident; he managed to crawl out of the bush to the roadside and called out for help.

“The people that saw him lying down by the roadside carried him to the hospital.
“When I saw him in the hospital, he was still talking but was in great pain.
“He was able to narrate how the incident happened to those that took him to the hospital before he gave up,” Isichei said.
“Explaining further, Isichei said Nwanmo said he had tried pulling the gun from where he hanged it in the bush when the gun exploded on him”
He said after the gun exploded, injuring Nwanmo, the late hunter managed to crawl out of the bush and called for help.
According to him, Nwanmo may have died due to the delay in treating him when he arrived the hospital; saying that the hospital had requested for a police report, but Nwanmo eventually died while his family were running around to obtain a police report.
When contacted, the Delta Police spokesperson, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said the matter was not reported to the police.
