Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a Chevron company and operator of the Agbami Unit, has secured a new Petroleum Prospecting Licence (PPL 2010) following its successful bid in Nigeria’s 2025 oil licensing round.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) announced the winners of the bid exercise in Abuja on Tuesday, paving the way for Chevron to expand its upstream operations in Nigeria.
Reacting to the development, Chevron’s Vice President of Exploration, Kevin McLachlan, described the award as a reflection of the company’s disciplined investment strategy and confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.
“Chevron continues to evaluate high-potential exploration opportunities across our global portfolio, with Nigeria long being an important part of our business. This award reflects our disciplined approach to adding quality acreage to our portfolio,” McLachlan said.
The Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron companies in Nigeria and the Mid-Africa region, Jim Swartz, commended the NUPRC and other stakeholders for conducting what he described as a successful licensing round.
He reaffirmed Chevron’s commitment to working with the Federal Government and industry partners to unlock Nigeria’s oil and gas potential.
“We appreciate the efforts of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and all stakeholders in delivering a successful licensing round.
“Chevron remains committed to working collaboratively with the Nigerian Government and our partners to support the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry and contribute to the country’s broader economic growth,” Swartz stated.
According to the company, the acquisition of PPL 2010 aligns with Chevron’s global exploration strategy, which focuses on technology-driven exploration, disciplined portfolio management and selective investment in high-potential energy assets.
Chevron noted that, beyond Nigeria, it is expanding exploration activities across Africa as part of efforts to strengthen its global energy portfolio and meet growing energy demand.
