The Delta State Government has condemned Sunday’s violent incident during Delta Central APC Stakeholders’ Meeting at the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun in Uvwie, directing security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, describing the attack as unacceptable and a threat to public peace.
Aniagwu said the government was disturbed by videos of the incident circulating on social media, particularly the brutal assault on one Simon Mudi alias Temple, who is a protocol aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Temple, in the trending videos from the fracas, was repeatedly attacked by armed youths, resulting in life-threatening injuries.
It was also gathered that the state commissioner for works (Urban/Highways), Comrade Reuben Izeze was also attacked during the melee.
He stressed that the Oborevwori administration would not tolerate violence or lawlessness under any guise, warning that those behind the attack would face the full weight of the law.
According to him, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed security agencies to identify, arrest and prosecute all those involved in the incident.
“The reported acts of violence, particularly the cruel attack on Simon Mudi, are unacceptable and have no place in our society,” Aniagwu said.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining peace, law and order, insisting that no individual, irrespective of status or identity, would be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
The government urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies carry out investigations into the incident.
