A former chairman of Udu Local Government Council of Delta State, Chief Solomon Kpomah, has been elected as the chairman of the Warri branch of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC).

Kpomah, also an immediate chairman of the Asaba branch of ICMC, was elected at an election conducted in Warri.

He was elected alongside five other executive members who will run the association for a tenure of three years.

Also elected are; Mrs. Princess Rosemary Iyase, Vice Chairman; Grace Egbenede Esq., Secretary; Mr. Vincent Omorie, Financial Secretary; Dr. (Amb) Gloria Adebiyi, Welfare and, Mrs. Atane Lawretta Miller, Publicity Secretary.

Kpomah, in his acceptance speech, charged members of the Institute to regularise their membership and work towards actualising the profession’s goal of peace in the society.

“Mediation is not adversarial. There are myriad of disputes in our environment and we must not wait for invitation from disputants before we intervene in dispute resolution but Mediators should be ‘looking for trouble’ in order to kill it that is Mediators must cultivate the habit of looking for where there are disputes and endeavor to settle them.

“Mediators should not sit at home and wait for cases to be sent to them instead they should always make themselves available because they are first peace makers and it is written in the Holy book ‘blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called the children of God’.

“It is my dream to establish an ICMC mediation Centre in Warri to complement the Delta state multi-door court houses in Warri and environs to provide ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) services to enhance justice delivery.

“We also plan to train more Mediators as there is so much to be done. All members of ICMC were enjoined to regularize their membership of the Institute in order to enjoy the full benefits of the Institute”, Chief Kpomah added.
