A middle-aged man, Kelechi Nwigbo, who recently returned from Germany, has been reportedly found dead in his hotel room at Eke Afikpo in Afipko North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The deceased who hailed from Akahufu Ekpaomaka in Ikwo Local Government of the state had been lodged in the hotel (name withheld) on September 20th, but his lifeless body was found in his hotel room last weekend.

It was gathered that Nwigbo upon checking into the hotel had instructed the management that no one should disturb him while relaxing.

However, the hotel management suspected something was wrong when staff and lodgers started perceiving offensive odour from his room and immediately alerted police in Afikpo which forced the door opened and found his lifeless body on the ground.

A hotel source told WARRI TODAY, “When the police broke into the room, the man was seen carrying calabash with some money inside and with white cloth material on his head and waist.”

The source claimed that staff and lodgers had reportedly heard a mysterious thunder strike from the deceased’s room “but because he instructed that nobody should come to his room unless he call the hotel attention, they didn’t bother to check since they didn’t hear any further noise after the thunder strike.”

It was learnt that the deceased last visited Nigeria in 2012. Family and friends were not aware of his presence in the country let alone being in Afikpo after 13 years.

The source added further “When the family contacted his friends in Germany, they expressed shock that they are not aware of his journey to Nigeria let alone lodging in Afikpo instead of Abakaliki the capital city of Ebonyi State.”

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Odah Loveth confirmed the report and said police were working tirelessly to unravel the cause of the man’s death.

Odah, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said “When the police divisional crime officer, Afikpo division lead his team to the hotel, break into the room, the man’s body was already decomposing.
