Members of the Lions Club International District 404 Nigeria have elected Mrs. Dora Adebayo as the Second Vice District Governor during the organisation’s 19th Multiple District Convention held in Asaba, Delta State.
The election took place on Saturday at the Dome Event Centre as part of activities marking the convention tagged “Asaba-Amaka 2026.”
Mrs. Adebayo is the wife of veteran journalist and businessman, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo.
Adebayo emerged victorious after polling 75 votes to defeat her opponent, Olore Evelyn Imokhe, who secured 32 votes.
Election analysis released after the exercise showed that 119 delegates registered for the poll, while 114 were accredited to vote.
According to the result announced at the convention, 115 votes were cast, out of which 107 were valid, while eight votes were rejected. Five delegates were absent during the exercise.
Speaking after her victory, Adebayo thanked members of the organisation for the confidence reposed in her leadership, describing the outcome as a reflection of unity and shared vision within the club.
She also appreciated her supporters and campaign team for standing by her throughout the election process.
The newly elected official pledged to serve with dedication and humility, promising to prioritise empowerment, unity, and humanitarian service during her tenure.
According to her, special attention would be given to supporting vulnerable people and members of communities through programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
“I remain committed to serving humanity and justifying the confidence placed in me by members,” Adebayo stated.
Speaking after the election, Chairman of the Nomination and Election Committee and Past District Governor, Patricia Udeme, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.
Udeme said members freely participated in the process and accepted the outcome in good faith, noting that elections naturally produce winners and losers.
She explained that the leadership structure of the organisation was designed to prepare members for greater responsibilities through mentorship and continuous leadership training.
According to her, the successful candidate will officially assume office in July.
The election formed part of activities lined up for the convention themed, “Building Bridges of Service and Unity,” which featured leadership sessions, humanitarian discussions, policy deliberations, and community-focused initiatives, including childhood cancer support programmes.
The event attracted Lions and Leos from across Nigeria alongside government officials, traditional rulers, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.
