A pressure group, Niger Delta Activists Forum (NDAF), has given reasons on why President Muhammadu Buhari sacked the acting board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by Prof Nelson Brambaifor.

The group said if President Buhari had left the Prof Brambaifor’s NDDC acting board, the commission which is meant to fast-track development in the region, would have collapse with the manner the interventionist agency was being operated.

NDAF, while taking glory for the sack of the board, said the body had the confidence of President Mohammadu Buhari to sack the board.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NDAF President, Success Jack said Buhari responded to a deliberate campaign started by the body on1st August 2019 and climaxed in 20th of same month, a day before the Presidency announced dissolution of the Brambaifa board.

Jack said, “Precisely August 1, 2019, when we kicked off struggle against Prof Brambaifa led NDDC board, we clearly set out goals and targets including mmediate sack and non confirmation of that board, Total probe of NDDC inception and of enabling act provisions that petmits necessary lacuna for corruption and impunity to thrive.

“We felt that with the way that board was going and glaring to all objective watchers, if allowed to continue, we could just wake up one day and government will say no more justification to sustain NDDC. It should go the way of OMPADEC and we don’t want that.

“Following our mass action and high profile consultations, in the highest quarters of the Presidency climaxing in 20th August, the board was dissolved the next day. The struggle was a huge success. We continue to push relentlessly to achieve the second and third goals which are obviously long term.”

Going forward, the forum welcomed the announcement of a new NDDC board, warning that it would not hesitate to pull the strings on them should they betray the confidence reposed on them by people in the region, just as it hailed Sen Gofswill Akpabio for honouring NDAF call for probe of the NDDC.
