Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday commissioned a newly constructed ultra-modern police station and performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the 11-kilometre Aboh-Akarai Road project in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, in what residents described as a major boost to infrastructure and security in the area.
The Governor, who was accompanied by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of DESOPADEC, Festus Ochonogor, and the member representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality on the Commission’s Board, Charles Olisa, said the projects reflected his administration’s commitment to sustainable development in oil-producing communities.
The twin events attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and residents from across Ndokwa Nation, many of whom hailed the projects as long-awaited interventions capable of transforming the socio-economic fortunes of the area.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Aboh-Akarai Road, Governor Oborevwori said the project aligns with his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for all, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security.
According to him, rural infrastructure remains a critical component of his government’s strategy to stimulate economic growth and improve access to communities in the riverine and oil-producing parts of the state.
He noted that the road, when completed, would ease transportation challenges, open up economic corridors and improve the living conditions of residents.
At the commissioning of the police station executed by DESOPADEC, the Governor said the facility would enhance security operations and strengthen the capacity of law enforcement agencies to protect lives and property in the area.
He urged residents to continue to cooperate with security agencies to sustain peace and stability in their communities.
In his remarks, DESOPADEC Managing Director, Ochonogor, reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to deliver impactful and people-oriented projects across oil-producing communities in Delta State.
He stated that the Commission would continue to partner with the state government in driving development and improving the welfare of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the Ndokwa people, Dr. Olisa described the projects as timely and transformative, saying they represented a significant milestone in the development of Ndokwa Nation.
“This project is critical to the people of Ndokwa Nation. It demonstrates a commitment to opening up our communities and improving the quality of life for our people. We are deeply grateful to Governor Oborevwori for delivering this legacy infrastructure,” he said.
Community stakeholders and traditional rulers at the event also commended the Governor for sustaining development efforts in the region, pledging continued support for programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, security and economic development.
