Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday swore in two new commissioners and four other appointees, charging them to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The governor said public office is a call to service and urged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them through transparent and people-centred leadership.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at Government House, Asaba, saw Mr. Brave Enodeh and Mr. Moses Ogodo inaugurated as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council. Also sworn in were Mr. Cosmas Igbenije as a member of the Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), alongside Chief Joseph Ojobu, Chief James Obeuwou and Mr. Fun-Ebi Edonyabo as members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission.
Oborevwori explained that Enodeh and Ogodo were appointed to replace two former commissioners who resigned to contest seats in the Delta State House of Assembly.
Addressing the appointees, the governor reminded them that their appointments came with enormous responsibility and called on them to provide purposeful leadership while remaining committed to the ideals of good governance.
“You must demonstrate leadership, integrity, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty. Your actions should inspire public confidence and reinforce our administration’s commitment to the MORE Agenda,” he said.
He noted that their responsibilities go beyond policy formulation, stressing that they must ensure transparency, accountability and fairness in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking on the appointment of Mr. Cosmas Igbenije to the DESOPADEC Governing Board, the governor urged him to contribute meaningfully to the commission’s mandate of improving the welfare of oil-producing communities.
Oborevwori recalled that the tenure of the current DESOPADEC board was recently extended by one year to ensure continuity in the execution of ongoing projects across the state’s oil-bearing communities.
He said the board had recorded significant achievements in road construction, classroom projects, healthcare facilities, markets, electricity and water supply, expressing confidence that it would build on those successes.
The governor also urged the board to continue engaging host communities in project planning and implementation to ensure development reflects the needs of the people.
Addressing the newly inaugurated members of the Delta State Judicial Service Commission, Oborevwori said only individuals of proven integrity should be entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the appointment, promotion and discipline of judicial officers.
He charged them to discharge their constitutional duties with fairness, transparency, impartiality and the fear of God in order to strengthen public confidence in the judiciary.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the justice sector and pledged continued collaboration with the judiciary to enhance the administration of justice in Delta State.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Mr. Brave Enodeh thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve and assured Deltans that the new appointees would remain committed to advancing the administration’s MORE Agenda.
He pledged that they would work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in them and contribute to the continued development of Delta State.
