The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has launched an aggressive push towards the 2027 general elections, setting up an Election Planning Committee and calling for total unity to deliver victory for all six of the party’s candidates.
The decision was reached at a meeting of the APC Ughelli North Leadership Council held at the Evwreni country home of the party’s founding leader in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor.
Party leaders resolved to put behind them the disagreements that trailed the party’s congresses and primary elections and unite to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, House of Representatives member, Hon. Francis Waive, and the party’s two House of Assembly candidates in 2027.
The meeting also welcomed the return of Evangelist Felix Ogbajini and Apostle Oghenerukevwe Okiti, who recently rejoined the APC after leaving with former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to the New Democratic Congress (NDC).
Addressing party leaders, Emerhor declared that the era of internal contest was over, insisting that the APC’s attention must now shift to winning elections.
“The congresses and primaries are behind us. Yes, there were disagreements, there were skirmishes and even some fights, but today we have all come together in unity. The purpose of those exercises was to produce candidates. Now the real work begins,” he said.
He urged party members to embrace reconciliation by reaching out to aggrieved members and welcoming those returning from other political parties.
“Those who left the party should be welcomed back. Politics is about numbers, and the more people we have, the stronger we become. We must also reach out to those who were unhappy after the primaries and make them understand that nobody lost. We are all winners because when we win the election, there will be opportunities for everyone.”
Describing Ughelli North as one of Delta State’s biggest voting blocs, Emerhor challenged members to justify that status by delivering overwhelming votes for the APC in the 2027 elections.
To coordinate the campaign, he announced the constitution of an Election Planning Committee with a two-week mandate to produce a comprehensive campaign blueprint covering reconciliation, mobilisation, logistics, funding, polling unit coordination and stakeholder engagement.
The committee is chaired by the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Chief Jaro Egbo, while the APC Local Government Chairman, Chief Lucky Ofomukoro, will serve as Deputy Chairman. Chief Sam Mariere was named Secretary.
Other members include Hon. Stella Okotete, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas, Hon. Sylvester Ovidje, Chief Terry Noah, Hon. Vera Ugbobor, Innocent Ovidje (Youth Representative), among others.
Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Chief Jaro Egbo, commended party leaders for ensuring peaceful congresses and primary elections despite intense political competition.
He said the APC remained united throughout the exercise without any recorded violence.
“We have every reason to thank God and appreciate our leaders for standing firmly with the party through every stage of our journey. From the congresses to the various elections, we remained united, and not a single life was lost or incident recorded,” Egbo said.
He urged members to sustain the spirit of unity to guarantee victory for all APC candidates in the next general elections.
Also speaking, Chief Sam Mariere said the APC would campaign on the achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, citing ongoing infrastructure projects, including roads, flyovers, schools and other development initiatives across Delta State.
“Our leader, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has given us every reason to campaign with confidence. Across the state, we can see flyovers, roads, schools and many other projects that speak for themselves,” Mariere said.
He added that delivering President Bola Tinubu’s re-election would attract more federal appointments and development projects to Delta State.
Other speakers, including Prof. S.W.E. Ibodje, Chief Lucky Ofomukoro, APC Women Leader Chief Gladys Agba and several ward leaders, echoed calls for unity, reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation, insisting that the party must remain focused on consolidating its electoral strength ahead of the 2027 polls.
