A Warri-based legal practitioner, Mr. Lucky Egboyi says the appointment of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs by President Muhammadu Buhari has shown the president was not sincere about his anti-corruption crusade.
He described President Buhari’s anti-corruption fight as a mere hoax and political witch-hunt.
Egboyi, who spoke on Thursday while addressing journalists in Warri, condemned the appointment of Akpabio and Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN) as Ministers of the Niger Affairs.

The lawyer said Mr. President ought to have considered issues of ‘morality’and corruption charges preferred against the former Akwa Ibom State governor before appointing him.
He asserted, “The President has the power to exercise the prerogative judicially and judiciously. But he did it without taking into consideration morality.”
Egboyi recalled that President Buhari, an acclaimed to be a man of integrity and anti-corruption was voted for by Nigerians because the people believed the previous administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan had failed.
He described the appointment of Akpabio as a mere ‘Political patronage’ to enable the former governor regained all he lost during the 2019 general election where he contested to be returned as a senator.

“This is a man when he (Akpabio) was in PDP; he was regular guest to the EFCC. For Keyamo who was prosecuting Akpabio to be junior minister is something else. The corruption fight is a charm.
“Nigerians are hopeless and no one is protesting. He has made the appointment and nobody can question him. Evans can even be brought from Prison and be given appointment. But he should do it with human face”, he added.
