A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief William Alu, has called for the return of Solomon Awhinawhi to the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with journalists, Alu anchored his appeal on the principle of equity and rotational representation within the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency. He explained that during Awhinawhi’s tenure as a two-term lawmaker, the seat was zoned to Ughelli North, after which it rotated to Udu, where another representative also served two terms.

He noted that the constituency is currently represented by a lawmaker from Ughelli South, arguing that, based on the existing arrangement, it would be fair for the seat to return to Ughelli North in 2027.

“Awhinawhi has paid his dues and remains one of the most experienced and widely accepted political figures from Ughelli North,” Alu said.

Describing the former lawmaker as “tested, proven, and trusted,” the APC chieftain insisted that Awhinawhi stands as the strongest contender from the area and would boost the party’s chances of retaining the seat against opposition parties.

He further urged Awhinawhi to formally declare his intention to contest, noting that there is growing support among stakeholders across the constituency for his return to the National Assembly.

Alu also cautioned that failure by the APC to present a formidable candidate could create an opening for rival parties in what is expected to be a keenly contested election.

The call adds to increasing political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties begin to strategise on zoning and candidate selection within Delta State.
