In a bid to create more awareness about the danger of the COVID-19 pandemic in rural communities, Safe Aid Foundation (SAF) has visited Iwhrekan community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State to sensitize residents of the area the seriousness of the coronavirus.

The SAF team led by its chairman, Dr Martins Kedienhon, who went from house-to-house to enlighten the people on how to keep safe from the global pandemic, appealed to the people of the area to take the safety of their health seriously by adhering to government directives.

Kedienhon urged the people of the area to strictly keep social distance as well as avoid large gathering and frequently wash their hands or alternatively make use of hand sanitizers as parts of measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

SAF, while also calling for the use of facemasks, noted that the relevant directives by government and health institutions were not targeted to punish the people but to save them from contracting the dreaded virus which has claimed over 100 lives in Nigeria.

Dr. Kedienhon said in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria especially in Delta State, Safe Aid Foundation (SAF) would continue the awareness in more communities/villages to ensure that the pandemic is kept at bay in the state.

The foundation which later distributed cash gifts, sanitizers and facemasks to members of the community also distributed foodstuff to vulnerable persons including the aged to cushion the hardship caused by the pandemic.

Kedienhon, while handling the gifts to the beneficiaries especially widows, persons with disability and the poor, called on spirited individuals in the state to support efforts that will ensure that the growing hunger in rural communities in the state is urgently tackled.
