Democracy Best Path To Nigeria’s Progress, Dafinone Tells Nigerians

Senator Ede Dafinone

Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, has called on Nigerians to remain committed to democratic governance, describing democracy as the most viable path to national development, accountability, and peaceful progress.

In a Democracy Day message issued on Friday, Dafinone congratulated Nigerians on the commemoration of June 12, describing the date as a historic symbol of the sacrifices and resilience of citizens in the struggle for democratic rule.

According to him, Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the collective determination of Nigerians to uphold justice, freedom, and good governance.

“June 12 remains a historic symbol of the sacrifices, resilience, and collective determination of Nigerians in the pursuit of democratic governance, justice, and national development,” he said.

The lawmaker acknowledged the economic and social challenges facing the country but maintained that democracy remained the best system of government for addressing national concerns and ensuring inclusive development.

He noted that Nigeria’s democratic journey since the return to civilian rule in 1999 had recorded steady growth despite prevailing difficulties.

“While our nation may be grappling with economic and social difficulties, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to democracy as the best form of government. Democracy provides the platform for accountability, participation, and peaceful change,” Dafinone stated.

The senator also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms would ultimately reposition the country for economic stability and sustainable growth.

He said although some of the policies currently being implemented required patience and sacrifice, there were clear indications that they would yield long-term benefits for the nation.

Dafinone further urged citizens, particularly residents of Delta Central, to actively participate in the democratic process by registering and obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of future elections.

With the Continuous Voter Registration exercise ongoing, he encouraged all eligible voters who had yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that every vote remained a powerful tool for influencing governance and leadership.

The senator also expressed appreciation to the people of Delta Central for their continued support and confidence in his representation at the National Assembly.

He equally commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in Delta State and reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress, urging constituents to remain united and strategically positioned within the nation’s political mainstream ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“As we look ahead to the 2027 elections, Delta Central must remain strategically positioned at the centre of national politics and development. We cannot afford to be spectators in the affairs that shape our future or return to opposition politics,” he said.

Dafinone called on residents of the district to remain united and committed to the APC, which he described as a platform for advancing the interests of the people and building a stronger Nigeria.
