The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike, has Suspended Dr Anthony Abia, the Chief optometrist and one of the Resident Doctors at Ezzamgbo General Hospital in the state.
Dr Umezurike who was on unscheduled inspection to some facilities in the state on Saturday where discovered that Dr Abia at the time of visit was not in office.
The commissioner, however, did not give duration for his suspension.

It was gathered that it was not the first time Dr Abia was being suspended by state government.
Umezuruike, while expressing his disappointment over the doctor’s constant absence from his duty post, said that the state government would review his employment.
The commissioner also stressed that the suspended doctor would not be paid again his salary and entitlements till further notice.
Conducting the commissioner of health round the hospital facilities, Dr Ogbonnaya Nwambeke, lamented insecurity in the hospital and urged the state government to address the situation by providing perimeter fencing around the hospital.

The Commissioner also visited Ezzamgbo maternity and everybody was on sit except the officer in charge OIC who according to them just left to the police station in respect of the robbery attack on the ITC students of the hospital recently.
Umezurike further warned health workers against lukewarmness and laziness attitude towards work as he would be embarking on the unscheduled tour to any facility from time to time and anybody found wanting would be treated accordingly.
