The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired back at the Director-General of the Delta State Orientation Bureau, Barr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, over his claim that opposition parties in the state were “staying in the shadows.”
The party described Oghenesivbe’s comment as “a political joke taken too far,” insisting that the APC administration had failed to make meaningful impact on the lives of the people despite huge revenues accruing to the state.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, the PDP accused government officials of living in “political fantasy” while ordinary citizens continued to suffer hardship across the state.
“We know that the likes of Oghenesivbe are living in political fantasy as they are always ensconced in the pool of fools paradise having enjoyed government largesse, thinking that what they enjoy in government circles trickles down to the pauperised people,” the statement said.
The opposition party alleged that despite increased federal allocations, 13 per cent derivation funds and internally generated revenue, Delta State remained one of the poorest states in Nigeria.
According to the PDP, the state government had failed to utilise Delta’s huge gas deposits to drive industrialisation and stable electricity supply, thereby creating an unfriendly environment for investors.
“Power generation is zero despite the huge gas deposits in the state. This has created an unfriendly business atmosphere for investors and driven away potential investors,” the party stated.
The PDP further accused the Oborevwori administration of focusing largely on what it described as “phantom performance” centred around the construction of three flyovers in one local government area while neglecting key sectors such as job creation and social welfare.
“Unlike the periods when PDP held sway in the governance of the state where job creation, care of the aged and indigent persons were major government policies, the present government is centred around overestimated flyover projects,” the statement added.
The party insisted that the 2027 general elections would reveal the true feelings of Deltans towards the current administration.
“The 2027 elections will once again explain the feelings of the rulers and the governed. No one can win the hearts of Deltans with self-professed ego boasting,” the statement noted.
The PDP also dismissed insinuations of crisis within the party, insisting that it remained united and legally recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the party, the Supreme Court judgment had validated the Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee.
The party urged Oghenesivbe, whom it described as a lawyer, to be guided by the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the 1999 Constitution in his public comments.
“Oghenesivbe and his group of followers can use phantom propaganda to launder the battered image of the government, but Deltans will judge all of us at the polls. We shall see who will laugh last,” the statement added.
