Police Inspector, Another Killed As Gunmen Attack Quarry Site In Edo

    An Inspector of Police and a yet-to-be identified worker have been confirmed killed as gunmen attacked workers of a quarry site in the Owan East local government area of Edo State.

     

    It was gathered that an expatriate and police sergeant were said to have sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.

     

    The incident occurred at Ihievbe-Ogben community in the Owan East Local Government Area of the State on Thursday October 17, 2024.

     

    The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident and the killing of the victims on Sunday.

     

    However, local community sources alleged that four persons including a policeman and the expatriate were murdered in the attack.

     

    It was gathered that a female staff of the company was reportedly abducted by the arms-wielding gunmen.

     

    Sources told NIGER DELTA TODAY Online that the gunmen ambushed the workers while returning to their based after the day job.

    The attack which witnessed sporadic gunshots created tension and fears among residents of the agrarian community.

    Confirming the incident, Yamu said only two persons including a police inspector was gun down during the attack.

     

    The police spokesperson said its personnel in conjunction with the military were already on the trail on the fleeing hoodlums.

     

    “A policeman and one other were killed. One police personnel and 1 expatriate injured. Investigation into the incident is ongoing alongside efforts in collaboration with the military to apprehend the suspects”, Yamu added.
