Two police officers deployed for the 2019 elections duties have been reportedly shot dead at Botem, an Ogoni community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was learnt that the incident has thrown the community in a state of tension and confusion.

The Rivers State Police Command has, however, confirmed the two killings saying that the deceased were on election duties when gunmen shot them dead.

Spokesman of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the attack on Friday, said armed men shot both unidentified officers, Sergeants and bolted with their rifles.

DSP Omoni who said the Police is on the trail of the gunmen, added that security has been intensified in that area to avoid further attacks.

Recall that armed men in a Toyota Hilux shot and killed a Police officer at the Rukpokwu check point, Obia Akpor LGA, on the eve of the election postponement Friday last week.
