The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) Pyrates Confraternity, Rainbow Deck, Effurun, in partnership with Atlantis Deck, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, has provided free medical care to hundreds of children in Ugborikoko Community, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The free medical outreach, held at the Ugborikoko Community Primary Health Care Centre, attracted a large turnout of children and their parents, from within and neighbouring communities, who arrived as early as 7:00 a.m. on Saturday to benefit from the humanitarian initiative targeted at children below the age of 17.
A team of experienced medical personnel deployed by the association carried out medical examinations, diagnoses and treatment of various ailments, while drugs were dispensed free of charge. Cases requiring advanced medical attention were referred to appropriate healthcare facilities.
Speaking during the outreach, Capoon of NAS Rainbow Deck, Mr. Emmanuel Okworu, said the programme was organised to provide access to quality healthcare for children whose parents and guardians may be unable to afford the rising cost of medical services.
According to him, the initiative is part of the association’s activities to improve the wellbeing of vulnerable members of society through relevant community service projects.
Also speaking, NAS Area Mate, Area 4, Sir Abel Idiomor, said the mission was designed to bring succour to sick children in Ugborikoko Community and surrounding areas, many of whom face challenges accessing healthcare due to financial constraints.
He expressed optimism that the programme would ease the burden on parents and guardians while contributing to improved health status of children in the community.
Some parents of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to members of Rainbow Deck and Atlantis Deck for the gesture, describing the initiative as timely and very beneficial in view of the prevailing economic realities.
As part of the outreach, the Capoon of NAS Rainbow Deck, Mr. Emmanuel Okworu, and Dr. Bright Edjeba, Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Warri Branch, who is also a member of the association, donated a glucometer and a pair of digital thermometer to the Ugborikoko Community Primary Health Care Centre to enhance healthcare delivery at the facility.
