S’Court Verdict: Eze Slams AGF, INEC Boss, Wike; Hails Mark, Others As Democracy Heroes

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, on Friday launched a blistering attack on key government officials following the Supreme Court judgment affirming David Mark as the authentic National Chairman of the party.

Eze, in a statement issued on Friday, said the ruling by the apex court not only restored order within the ADC but also rescued Nigeria’s democracy from what he described as looming collapse.

The ADC stalwart specifically took a swipe at the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, urging them to “bury their heads in shame” over their alleged roles in the leadership crisis.

He alleged that recent developments within the judiciary had fuelled public distrust, claiming that some court decisions in political matters appeared compromised.

“Even when all hope seemed lost, Thursday’s judgment by the Supreme Court was an act of God,” Eze said, adding that the ruling reversed what he termed “perverse and anti-democratic” decisions by lower courts and the electoral body.

Eze further accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of undermining democratic institutions, alleging attempts to destabilise opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the verdict has not only settled the ADC leadership tussle but also strengthened the rule of law and internal democracy within political parties.

“With this judgment, the path is now clear for unity, stability, and effective leadership in the ADC,” he said, calling on party members to rally behind Mark.

He added that the ruling would contribute significantly to Nigeria’s body of jurisprudence on political party administration and shape how similar disputes are handled in the future.

The ADC chieftain also called for the resignation of INEC Chairman, Amupitan, accusing him of partisanship and selective compliance with court orders.

He cited what he described as double standards in the handling of party leadership disputes, contrasting INEC’s actions in the ADC case with that of the National Rescue Movement.

Eze further criticised the AGF for allegedly taking positions in court that could undermine multiparty democracy, insisting that the office should remain neutral in politically sensitive matters.

In a political twist, Eze declared several opposition figures as “heroes of democracy” for their roles in pursuing the case to its conclusion. Those he named include Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola.

He expressed confidence that their collective vision could steer Nigeria away from what he termed “undemocratic forces.”

Eze reaffirming the ADC’s commitment to providing “credible, people-oriented leadership,” while urging Nigerians to support the party as a viable alternative in the country’s political landscape.
