There is palpable tension in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, as armed youths suspected to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently in gun dwell.

WARRI TODAY gathered that the bloody clash which started late Saturday evening has already claimed at least two lives while scores persons are currently been hospitalised in different hospitals in the area.

Although, details of the bloody clash was still sketchy at the time of filing this report, sources claimed that clash is between thugs loyal to the ex-chairman of Uvwie Council, Hon. Henry Baro, now of the APC and an aide to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa simply identified as Ngozi.

Uvwie has been peaceful until these forthcoming general elections which had some known thugs formerly in PDP defect to APC.

Sources claimed that two persons were shot dead from both in parties in the fight which run through Saturday night to the Sunday noon.

WARRI TODAY has not been able to verify the identities of the deceased at the time of filing this report.

But it was, however, gathered that some of the wounded thugs are receiving treatments at different hospitals including the Ekpan General Hospital. Our sources noted that over fifteen persons have been seriously wounded in the melee.

It was also gathered that hoodlums in the area are now also using the situation to rob unsuspecting members of the public including motorists plying the Effurun Market/PTI road.

The popular Effurun market is currently said to be deserted by traders owing to sporadic gunshots around the market, Jakpa junction, Orhumarho and Alaka axis of the city.

Effurun is the major town into the commercial city of Warri.

Although a police source confirmed the clash, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, has not responded to his calls for details.

Details later…
