Contrary to allegations of culpability being leved against Hon Solomon Ahwinahwi that he masterminded the Ughelli/North Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency rerun poll of May 30, emerging facts have shown that it was clearly a decision of the top hierarchy of the party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Hon Taleb Tebite, who was declared winner in the contentious primary held on May 22, has been accusing his opponent, Hon Ahwinahwi, of snatching his victory with claims that the Party did not authorize the rerun of May 30. However, the party has affirmed that it okayed the rerun as it has gone further to order similar rerun in four more states.

The other states where the PDP has ordered rerun elections, apart from Delta State, include Lagos, Imo, Benue and Katsina States.

Debo Ologundare, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, who made the disclosure in Abuja on Friday night, said the party leadership took the decision after very careful deliberations on the reports of the Electoral and Appeal Panels on the congresses, prompting approval for a repeat of the primaries.

According to Ologundare, the rerun primaries ordered on Friday, affects Ahiazu and Orsu State Constituencies of Imo and Musawa Dandume Zango State Constituencies of Katsina States, respectively, which holds today, Sunday, June 5, 2022,

Also scheduled for today, are those of Oru East/Orsu/Orlu Federal Constituency of Imo and Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency of Benue States respectively, while that of Lagos State House of Representatives comes up Monday, June 6, 2022.

Meanwhile, Mr. Johnson Adevuaye, who reacted to the development while chatting with newsmen in Ughelli, said the similar cancellation and scheduling of rerun in other federal constituencies across the country by the PDP national leadership has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the Ughelli-Udu issue.

He appealed to Hon Taleb Tebite and his supporters to exhibit the sportsmanship spirit and join hands with Hon Solomon Ahwinahwi for the overall interests of the party as Ahwinahwi’s victory in the 2023 general elections will be victory for all.
