A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, has thrown his weight behind the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Rivers State, Hon. Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, describing his emergence as a defining moment for the state’s political future.
Nwuche said Chinda’s emergence represents more than a political victory, adding that it reflects the triumph of progressive politics, grassroots participation and inclusive governance in Rivers State.
The former Deputy Speaker pledged his full support for the APC flagbearer and assured him of broad-based mobilisation across political structures and grassroots networks to ensure victory at the polls.
He urged Chinda to remain committed to a leadership style that embraces all citizens irrespective of ethnic, political or social differences.
According to him, the governorship candidate must sustain a de-tribalised approach and see every Rivers citizen as part of one family.
“He should remain steadfast and continue to see every Rivers man and woman as a brother and sister while treating everyone equally and fairly,” he said.
Nwuche also called on Rivers people across political parties, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds to rally behind a vision centred on peace, unity, development and economic growth.
He extended congratulations to other candidates who emerged victorious during party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections across the APC and Peoples Democratic Party structures in the state.
Among those congratulated were Chief Felix Obuah, APC senatorial candidate for Rivers West Senatorial District; Hon. Solomon Bob, candidate for Ahoada East/Abua-Odual Federal Constituency; and Hon. Victor Obuzor, candidate for Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Federal Constituency.
Nwuche urged the candidates to see their emergence as a call to service rather than personal political triumph.
He stressed that leadership should be anchored on integrity, accountability, fairness and a genuine desire to improve the lives of the people.
The former Deputy Speaker lamented that Rivers State had witnessed political tensions and governance challenges over the last three years, noting that such divisions had slowed development and weakened public confidence in democratic institutions.
According to him, leaders across political divides must place the interests of the people above personal ambitions and partisan interests.
“The time has come to prioritise peace, stability and progress in Rivers State,” he stated.
Nwuche, who also chairs the Board of the South South Development Commission, advised emerging leaders to approach power with humility and avoid being misled by praise singers.
He warned that political office is temporary and encouraged leaders to embrace mentorship and constructive guidance.
“No leader knows it all,” he cautioned.
He further called on Rivers voters to support credible leaders with records of competence and public service, maintaining that the future of the state depends on visionary leadership, unity and collective responsibility among stakeholders.
