By Chancel Bomadi Sunday

BOMADI – The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bomadi local government area of Delta state, has cautioned youths against thuggery and hooliganism in Saturday’s general elections in the council area.

This is just as the Bishop of Bomadi Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Hyacinth Egbebo, has urged youths of the council area not to allow themselves to used as thugs by politicians to cause mayhem before, during and after the general elections.

The clerics stated this at Bomadi, Friday this week, at the backdrop of the prevailing political tension in the council area, where two major contestants for the Bomadi Constituency seat at the State Assembly hail from the same community, Kpakiama.

The incumbent lawmaker and deputy majority leader of the Delta Assembly, Hon. Kenneth Oboro Preyor, PDP, and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Kelvin Preye Okaba, appeared to go into an epic battle come Saturday with their supporters embarking on massive but unnecessary campaigns within community for the past one month.

Chairman of CAN, Bomadi council area, Snr Apostle Sunday Ekeremor, noted that politics was not a do or die affair and advised supporters of both candidates to maintain peace in the council area, most especially in Kpakiama community.

He said, “we are not going to kill ourselves because of politics. The candidates and their supporters should adhere to laid-down rules and principles of the game.

“Campaigns of calumny are not necessary in politics, thuggery and hooliganism are alien to true democracy.

“So, I advise Bomadians, particularly the youths, not to stake their lives for one man’s ambition.

“Politics has become part of us. It is a game of losers and winners and the winners must embrace and carry along the losers, which is the beauty of it all”.

However, Bishop Egbebo in his admonition urged youths of the council area to take their destinies into their own hands by not allowing themselves to be used by politicians.

“Politics is not worth dying for, our youths must not succumb to the enticements of politicians.

“After all, after elections they will abandon them on the streets to unleash mayhem on ordinary citizens in the society.

“I advised that youths should engage themselves in reasonable ventures that will make them good leaders of tomorrow, and not to become slaves to politicians”, he said.
