The All Progressives Congress (APC) was on Tuesday hit by a looming crisis as some selected stakeholders in Edo South Senatorial District raised concerns over alleged intimidation and attempts to influence the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders speaking through Barrister Uyi Obakpolor and Engr. Benson Obaretin accused some aides of the Edo State Government of making comments capable of creating tension within the party.
They alleged that a video circulating on social media contained threatening remarks directed at former APC governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
According to the stakeholders, actions capable of intimidating aspirants or influencing the outcome of the primaries could deepen divisions within the Edo APC and weaken the party ahead of future elections.
They warned that the party risked another internal crisis if members were denied a transparent and competitive process during the primaries.
The group also urged Governor Monday Okpebholo to call political appointees and supporters to order and ensure that all aspirants contest freely without harassment or pressure.
They further called on the APC State Working Committee and the National Working Committee to investigate the alleged video and sanction any party member found culpable.
The stakeholders appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC to intervene early and ensure a credible primary process in Edo State.
The development comes amid growing political consultations and alignments within the Edo APC ahead of the party’s primaries for the 2027 general elections.
