Dafinone, Ukah Were Not Passengers in Agbor Train Accident – NRC Clarifies

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has clarified that Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, and former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Hon. Patrick Ukah, were not among the passengers aboard the Ujevwu–Itakpe Train Service involved in the recent accident near Agbor, Delta State.

The corporation made the clarification on Tuesday, following an earlier statement that mistakenly suggested that the two prominent Delta leaders were passengers on the train at the time of the incident.

In a statement signed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the corporation acknowledged the error and expressed regret over the misinformation.

According to the NRC, both Dafinone and Ukah played crucial roles in the aftermath of the accident by mobilising first responders and emergency personnel who participated in the rescue operations.

Rather than being victims of the incident, the duo were actively involved in coordinating support efforts that ensured prompt response and assistance to affected passengers.

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation wishes to clarify that contrary to an earlier statement, Senator Ede Dafinone and former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Hon. Patrick Ukah, were not passengers on board the Ujevwu–Itakpe Train Service involved in the accident near Agbor,” the statement read.

The corporation noted that their swift intervention and commitment significantly contributed to the emergency response mounted after the accident.

It further commended both men for their patriotism and dedication, describing their actions as selfless and exemplary at a critical moment.

“The NRC regrets the unintended error and sincerely appreciates the selfless and swift intervention and support of these great Nigerians during the rescue efforts,” Opeifa stated.

The train accident, which occurred near Agbor, triggered emergency rescue operations involving railway officials, security agencies, medical personnel and volunteers, as efforts were intensified to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers.

The corporation reiterated its commitment to transparency and accurate public communication while continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
