Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has assured that riverine communities in the state will receive improved attention from his administration in the next four years through infrastructural development.

Okowa said coastal communities from where the nation’s mainstay is derived should not continue to remain underdeveloped, saying that having tour most of the riverine communities during his electioneering campaign he now better understand the pains and demands of the people.

The governor, speaking during “a thank you” meeting with journalists in the state on Thursday, noted that his administration would continue to build on his first term achievements and bring development to all areas of the state.

He said, “From our visits, it was obvious that our people in the creeks need a lot of government attention which will make them happy and we are determined as a government to provide infrastructure in the area for our people who are in those areas to be comfortable.”

The governor stated that his administration would complete in two years the Ughelli/Oleh/Asaba dualisation project, adding that other laudable projects such as the Asaba International Airport, Oil and Gas Park and Agro-Industrial Park would also received prioritized attention from him.

He also promised to complete the storm drainage projects and other numerous life-changing programmes to be completed while new ones that will also be initiated will be completed before the end of his tenure in 2023.

Okowa, who used the occasion to drum for media support for his administration, noted that with strong media support and criticism, his administration will deliver on his electioneering campaign promises to the people of the state.

“I must thank Deltans in general and thank you (Journalists) for reporting our activities; at every point in time, before, during and after the campaigns, you were with us, even some of you who were afraid of water, were with us in the creeks.”

“I appreciate the roles Journalists are playing in my government; we are partners in progress and that partnership should continue; ensure accurate reporting. If there is any issue that requires clarification, you can reach me, the Chief Press Secretary or any of the political appointees.

“We have an open-door policy where all Journalists, every Deltan has the right to be contributors to good governance; as much as possible, I will be frank with our people”, Governor Okowa stated.
